The Name

The expedition name “Akilineq” translates to “the land on the other side of water” in Inuktitut. The name was adopted from the Akilineq hills, a traditional meeting place on the north bank of Thelon river as it flows into Beverly Lake. In our case the translation of the name refers to the land and waterway which we seek beyond that which Thaidene nëné protects, Great Slave Lake.
