Those of you who have travelled understand that it is impossible to see everything and that travel does not quench the bug but unlocks dozens of more mysteries, places yet to be seen. This is exactly how this trip came to be. Standing at the ferry terminal in Blanc Sablon at the end of our Labrador or Bust trip, I couldn't help but wonder, "What if we kept going down this road?"
It took 5 years to realize the dream. However the lure of the Forgotten Labrador or the Cote Nord on the Lower North Shore of Quebec was too strong to ignore.
Flying from Natashquan to St.Augustin our intention was to walk (snowshoe) 360km back to the truck along the White Route or Route Blanche using as much traditional gear as we could. Wooden/babiche snowshoes, moosehide mukluks, canvas anoraks and a canvas wall tent.
The craziest thing about this trip was that we brought no backup stove, no MSR, no gasoline. We required the handy work of the porcupine to provide us dry standing wood every night to melt snow, cook food, dry clothing and warm up.
To date it was one of my favourite trips. The harshness of the land, the unforgiving nature of the cold, the self reliance and cooperation required to move forward through a land which is frozen in time.
